The VTCT Skills Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis is aimed at those learners who have an interest or responsibility to attain knowledge and practical competences required to provide basic life support and manage anaphylaxis in emergency situations. This qualification can also be used to support the prerequisite requirements for VTCT Skills Aesthetic suite of qualifications.
The qualification covers the following areas in line with the First Aid at Work Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, Guidance on Regulations (L74) Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines:
• Assessing emergency situations
• Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
• Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
• Provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
Through this qualification the learner will develop the knowledge and practical competences required to deal with an adult who is unresponsive or experiencing an anaphylactic reaction.
The Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support, AED, and Management of Anaphylaxis is typically a 1-day course, usually lasting 4–6 hours, depending on the provider and whether it includes practical assessments.
This course trains learners in adult basic life support (BLS), the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and the recognition and management of anaphylaxis.
It is suitable for healthcare professionals, beauty and therapy practitioners, and anyone who may need to respond to medical emergencies in a workplace or community setting.
Learners study:
CPR and chest compression techniques
Use of an AED
Recognizing and responding to anaphylaxis
Emergency response and management
Health and safety procedures
Assessment is practical, including demonstration of CPR, AED use, and anaphylaxis management, along with participation in scenario-based exercises.
